Grenada Carnival

Carnival is a renowned traditional festival celebrated on both mainland Grenada and the sister isle Carriacou.

Grenada's Carnival festivities commence from mid July and climaxes with a bang in mid August.

Grenada Carnival, also known as 'Spice Mas' - 'Mas' the shortened form of masquerade - brings together a collage of traditional, elaborate masquerade costumes, parade of the bands, Children's Carnival Frolic, Rainbow City Festival, National queen show, J'Ouvert,  beautiful steel pan music and Monday Night Mas competition.

Monday Night Mas is the peak of Carnival Monday's events where several bands sporting festive colours and bright lights parade through the streets. This is an event to remember whether you play with the band or watch on the sidelines. You can feel the energy reverberating through the air. The Gem’s very own Fantazia 2001 Night Club has captured the winning title in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

All of these activities reinforce the synergy of Carnival but not without the sensational rhythms of 'Soca' and Calypso music whose intricate renditions are sung by Calypso bards who compete on the big stage at the National Soca Monarch and Dimanache Gras finals. In this competition the winner takes all and earns the right to reign supreme for one year as having won and also being crowned as king and queen. In whatever way you decide to quench your visit appetite, just remember that there are loads of fun & frolicking for all age groups.

Before the reveling begins in Grenada, our sister isle Carriacou fires away at her carnival celebrations and boat regatta. You can immerse yourself in fun filled activities such as the Children Carnival frolic, J'Ouvert, queen show, boat regatta etc. These exciting events are sure ways of setting yourself free and simply enjoying life at it best!

Remember, it doesn't matter where you're coming from or heading to, Grenada & Carriacou carnivals are 'must experience' events that you cannot miss! .
